The 50th Anniversary Edition of Model 62 by Niels Otto Moller was agreed to be made in 2012 by Jonne Moller, the son of Niels Otto Moller and current owner of JL Mollersmobelfabrik, and Paere Dansk. The original Model 62 was designed in 1962 by Niels Otto Moller with leather, fabric or cord seats. Oliver Olsen, owner of Paere dansk, designed a seat made of 100% solid rosewood.
In 2012, Jorgen Moller, the original designer’s son, loved so much the chair with a solid rosewood seat that it was agreed that chair would be launched as a 50th Anniversary of the original design. Oliver Olsen waited patiently for his collection of rosewood bought in 2006 to cure before the chairs could be made. The dryness and quality of the rosewood was ready in 2017 and the the first 30 chairs were made over the course of 5 years.
An expected series of 150 chairs was planned for 50th Anniversary Edition with solid rosewood seats, however, the time required to stabilise the solid wood seats means that it is unlikely that anymore chairs will be made.
Of the batch of 30, we have 8 chairs available for sale. Each chair is priced at £8820. The images show a pair. An additonal 6 chairs are ready to ship. We are happy to provide images of the 8 chairs together as a set or in any other combination.
The rosewood for these chairs was purchased in 2006 from a sustainable plantation owner in Costa Rica, who has replanted ten of thousands of trees. The rosewood type is dalbergia retusa. Because each chair weighs under 10kg (9.6-9.8kg), the chairs do not requires CITES permits to be transported internationally.
